Cefn Sidan Shipwrecks

Cefn Sidan - Carmarthenshire's Skeleton Coast.
Cefn Sidan - Carmarthenshire's Skeleton Coast.

During the ebb of a spring tide, looking  west along the vastness of Cefn Sidan, you will see  the remains of some unfortunate ship, trapped on a sandbank so many years ago. The wooden struts rise  from the surrounding sands, mysteriously beckoning you to venture across.

This wreck is far away and the distance will usually deter a beachcomber. But once in a while with a clear blue sky and a warm sea breeze, someone will answer the call and set off defiantly towards it.  But be warned, as you approach those enigmatic wooden fingers, your journey will not be over, as another wreck will appear in the further distance that will seemingly demand your attention, and then another . . . and another further still.

Very soon you will become mesmerised, trudging off past Tywyn Point, staring vacantly into the distance. Your eyes transfixed on some distant object rising from the endless sand - marching on and on until you are swallowed up by the distant sea mists like so many others before you.
